Future of the Funky Pt. 1

Here is 15 of my personal favorite cutting edge videos of the past 10 years.  These videos represent futuristic vision and the ability to stray from the norm and venture into the land of untapped creative genius.

Some videos didn’t make the list because of red tape BS. Many videos are being taken down on sites such as Youtube and Vimeo for copyright violations. However, a lot of these websites have allowed artists’ videos to reach millions. Many music television stations aren’t playing videos as much anymore and VH1 Soul, one of the only stations dedicated to soul music, is being threatened to get shut down. Where are fans to turn? I guess everything does boil down to $$ and cents.  I mean do we really have to pay for cable and the foreboding subscription fees for these websites?

This list is in no particular order and the first selection is the hard to obtain (online) new video from Lady Gaga.  For a long time I have spoken ill of this entertainer for her over-the-top antics and unoriginal personal style.  However, I must give credit where credit is due.  Even though, I don’t fancy the song, the imagery and fashion is very innovative.  See if you can recognize all of the visual references made throughout the video.

1. Lady Gaga ft. Beyonce “Telephone

2. Queen of the Stone Age “Go With The Flow”

3. K-Os “B-Boy Stance

4. Mr. Lif “Brothaz”

5. Gwen Stefani “What You Waitin’ For?”

6. Snoop Dogg “Sensual Seduction”

7. Outkast “Hey Ya”

8. Madvillain “All Caps”

9. Zion I “Juicy Juice”

10. Bjork “Pagan Poetry”

11. Noisettes “Saturday Night”

12. McBess & Simon “Wood”

13. Gnarls Barkley “Smiley Faces”

14. Nola Darling “Nola D”

15. Kid Cudi “Pursuit of Happiness” (Unofficial Video)
